8.05p.m. grey cloud all day. The crickets are very loud tonite. Cyclone Alfred has been down-graded to a tropical low. There are now more than 200k homes without power.

10.18p.m. a few scattered showers!

I'm not sure what is more frightening, the cyclone or the people playing in it. 100k now without power. 50k evacuated. The erosion along the Gold Coast is incredible, leaving a 3mtr sand cliff drop.

"There's extreme erosion between the Southport Surf Lifesaving club and Narrow Neck, and the council engineers are actually assessing the damage at the moment, but there is some real risk to some of those council assets, including some of the stairs and the viewing platforms."

The full force of Cyclone Alfred is due to hit early tomorrow morning. The system is still 80kms off shore.

Praying for everyone’s safety - why are people such idiots - going near those dangerous situations. I shake my head.
