What's the temperature where you are???

I know that the "feels like" temp depends on several factors, including dew point, humidity and wind. Where I am in SD forecast says that at midnight, with temps at about -18 F, the feels like temp will be -40 F. This is with fairly light wind and humidity around 65%. Does anybody know whether the temp for the hens will be -40? I'm quite concerned about how they will fare in their coop given that wind is not really a factor.

Hopefully someone with good insight about northern temps will chime in. My hens would flat out die with those temps. We hardly stay below freezing, here. I suppose it depends on the norms for your flock/area, acclimation, coop insulation, and the like.
Thanks for your response! Their coop I think is Ok, not too many drafts and it is insulated. However, it's a large coop so that makes it colder for them. They are a Rhode Island Red variety called Cinnamon Queens that are supposed to do well in harsh climates. However, I can tell they are really unhappy, sitting in the corner or standing on one leg, whining rather than making their usual sounds.

I agree with @TXchickmum bales of hay, straw, anything like that placed against the walls may help insulate. Good luck to you all.
