We've had a steady, drizzly rain for about an hour, plus a little thunder and lightning! That's very unusual for February. We even had a power outage for about 20 minutes, apparently caused by a nearby lightning strike.
Power outages are rare here. I actually enjoy them because they're never long enough to cause any trouble and the electricity off means blessed
silence.
Living in the desert, our house is perpetually
LOUD. We're either heating or cooling (except for maybe two days in November which is our spring) so there's always a heater or A/C or evaporative cooler running and fans on everywhere to circulate the air.
In addition, each room has a HEPA air cleaner running on high 24/7 in a Sisyphean battle against the hated desert dust. We have epic levels of dust. You can dust and vacuum several times a day and never get ahead of it. It's everywhere. On the furniture, on the cabinets and walls, in our eyes and throats. Blech.
As a result we live in a constant cacophony of running machinery. Tvs, computers, and radios have to be turned way up to hear them above the noise. It's impossible to have a normal conversation. I feel like I'm always yelling. It's enough to drive you batty.
When the power goes out, it all turns off and things are blissfully
quiet. We can speak normally again. Ahhhh... it's such a relief.
Until the power comes back on.
