Creosote is a scrubby bush that grows everywhere around here. It has a long history of medicinal use by indigenous peoples. It's used to treat respiratory ailments and has natural anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.

That unique fresh aroma that predominates in the desert after a rain storm comes from the oils in its waxy leaves. You can get the same rain storm smell and some of the medicinal benefits of creosote by putting a branch in your shower.

That's about as close as we get to rain this time of year. We have to simulate it in our bathrooms. 😒

It's just one of those weird southwest things. Here's a creosote bush.

I love the desert, and those Palo Verde(spelling?) trees are wonderful!

I love the desert, and those Palo Verde(spelling?) trees are wonderful!

The palo verde tree (“green stick” in Spanish) is Arizona’s state tree. Very pretty yellow flowers when it blooms (but not a happy time for people with allergies).
