These guys are everywhere right now. Bark scorpions glow in black light if they've shed recently. We use a black light to check patios, garages, and bedrooms. We check our clothes and especially shoes before putting them on and bed linens before getting into bed.

June = scorpions. July and August = tarantulas. Fun times. 😬
The other night as I had just got into bed, my dog, which sleeps at the end of the bed, started attacking something? Turning on the light, it was a scorpion! a yellow bark scorpion. They are bad here in South Texas when it gets 100°F and dry! They come indoors to find water and a cool place.

We've (my cat and I) killed several this year already. Most were indoors. I've also killed 3 black widows outdoors. I hate the scorpions the worst.

Do they come up through the drains? We have to cover all drains at night otherwise roaches and even scorpions crawl up through them.

We also have to have 1/4" hardware cloth over all exterior vents or you get all kinds of critters coming in looking for water, warmth in winter, or cool in summer: scorpions, roaches, black widows, huntsmen spiders, mice, lizards, etc.

Every opening to the outside has to be covered, and covered well.

Tarantulas at least usually stay outside. I've only found a tarantula indoors once.

No, they come in through cracks or underneath the thresholds, sometimes I see them crawling across the ceiling.
Mice come in too, I have also found a snake (rat snake) in the backroom, where I keep chick's until they are old enough to go outside. The backroom is tied to the garage and is a major entry point. I set glue traps, and regular mouse traps in the backroom, the glue traps catch insects too!

Southern Queensland experiences coldest temperatures since last winter as Brisbane drops to single digits

Queensland's south-east has shivered through its coldest temperatures this year as Brisbane drops to single digits.

Brisbane Airport dropped to about 7 degrees Celsius overnight, while Amberley in Ipswich fell to roughly 2C.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has forecast frosty mornings this week after the state recorded its lowest temperatures since last winter, including three southern inland locations that saw negatives overnight — including -0.3C at Wellcamp Airport in Toowoomba, 0.2C at Roma, and 0.1 at Kingaroy.

"Particularly in areas from the Central Highlands and Coalfields regions, through inland parts of Capricornia, Wide Bay, Burnett, and through the Maranoa and Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt," senior forecaster Steve Hadley said.

With sun levels lower in winter following the autumn months, so Australia's far south is feeling the cool.

-----------------------

From 2021: An icy blast that swept over southeast Australia over the weekend has made its way to Queensland with parts of the state experiencing sub-zero temperatures marking their coldest morning of the year.

Some towns shivered through overnight temperatures 8C below the monthly average with the mercury sitting at a below freezing -2.2C in Applethorpe and Roma in the south as residents woke up Monday morning.

A series of cold fronts moving east across Victoria and NSW from the Great Australian Bight over the weekend have caused the wintry conditions which brought hail to coastal regions, snow to the alps, and frost inland.
