Adelaide has shivered through its coldest morning in years, with temperatures dropping below zero degrees Celsius in some parts of the city overnight.
Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) senior forecaster Simon Timke told ABC Radio Adelaide it was the coldest morning in the city since August 27, 2021.
He said Adelaide's minimum temperature dropped to 2.6C at 5:50am, while it was cooler in the suburbs.
"Parafield got down to minus 0.1C, Edinburgh 0.6C, Mount Lofty 1.1C, Adelaide Airport even 1.5C so, quite a cold start," he said.
"Most of those minimum temperatures occurred a little bit earlier. We've had a little bit of north-westerly wind pick up which has lifted the temperature a tiny bit."
The state government said the Code Blue activation unlocked additional accommodation and outreach services for South Australia's most vulnerable.
Toward Home Alliance senior manager Shaya Nettle said her organisation had bolstered its response last night in time for the forecast cold weather.
"We have an … outreach team that covers the entire CBD and North Adelaide areas to let people know additional supports are available, including Baptist Care SA's WestCare site," she said.
She said the WestCare site supported more than 19 people overnight, but she expected that number to rise throughout the week.
