What's the temperature where you are???

Does Maryland usually get this cold? I always thought of it more of a warmer state.
yes winter is cold and summer is hot lol i’ve been here 30 years
usually it waits until january to get really cold
jan and feb temps can go as low as 4 degrees overnight usually only a few nights like that per year
and a few weeks of teens at night
I watch the weather carefully because when it does go down to the teens at night, I have to put the water in my kitchen running on a drip or my pipes freeze
also there’s usually only a few days that don’t get up into the 30s during the day.
i’m on the mason dixon line
(where north and south meet)

Seems I will be also on the receiving end of that weather system and get freezing rain tomorrow afternoon.

18:00hrs

-5C and overcast, low tonight -6C

Tomorrow -1C and calling for freezing precipitation. Then temps rising tomorrow night and rain on Monday.

Yes it’s miserable crud, I’ll likely bring the horses in early - no sense having them all miserable, even with their blankets on their head and neck still get wet and the ice crusts their manes and forelocks.

Nasty business freezing rain.

Yep, I have to remember if I go outside later or in the morning or I'll fall on my tush on the deck. That hurts!
Oh no! Be careful that’s a good way to break a hip.

Wood shavings is the best I find for throwing down on ice, it creates a nice rough surface for traction.

really? ive been using sand. 🤔
Sand where I have to walk and straw where the duckies stand
Sand works too, but I have found the shavings larger size gives better texture. And traction.

I use old horse bedding for icy areas, the manure and shavings make a nice rough surface. Today I threw a bunch of old bedding on a couple frozen puddles in the horses’ paddocks, the bit of snow hides the slippery spots so I scuffed the snow up a bit and threw old manure on the ice.

As I bed with a mixture of shavings and straw it works great at making the icy surface rough and giving traction.

Love ya Texas. Will have highs in the low 80s till next Wednesday.
