My 7yr old hen Joanie started crowing this morning. She has always been an odd girl, head shaking episodes, odd-shaped eggs laid in mid-walk from the coop, and a overgrowing beak. During summer her comb and wattles have doubled in size and turned the richest red. She has also been clucking and carrying on as if broody. I'll be waiting for the Council letter telling me roosters aren't permitted

I have a hen that crows, actually have had a couple. The roosters look at them like they are nuts hahaha.

Holy moly we had some wind this morning! I was sitting at the table in the backyard and it came out of nowhere. Hit me so hard it made me yell and nearly knocked me out of my chair. I'm over 6' tall, it's not easy to knock me out of anything. I also hate yelling. Blew everything off the table and nearly into New Mexico.

I wouldn't have minded so much except there's a little crabgrass patch where we dump the water from the waterers and dishes and I'd just picked the grass for the chooks and had it in a little pan to take to them and it all blew away.

The good news is that the tarps and pens held together magnificently. Made me proud.

Last year was so horrid. 100F/38C+ all the way through October. They're saying this year is going to be even worse.
