Drought in South Australia, Victoria a hint at lasting shift in rainmaking weather patterns
1 day ago
By weather reporter Tyne Logan and meteorologist Tom Saunders
Considering we're not in El Niño, it might be surprising to hear one of the worst droughts on record is crippling multiple states.
Adelaide has only received around 300mm of rain since February last year — the city's driest 15-month spell since records began in 1839.
Similar shortfalls are extending across the whole of agricultural SA, while severe drought is also impacting most of the western parts of Victoria and Tasmania.
This autumn is also failing to cool down, with south-east states this week bathing in temperatures resembling summer.
