What's the weather like where you are?

* Today is my lawn watering day, after 4 p.m., and that's great because I can cool everything inside and out just by watering. DH had an old carpet drying blower at work which we set up at the front window and as I water, it catches the lower temps and pulls them into the house!!!

its 90 ahhhhhhh the girls are all panting their heads off and everything is sticky we have not turned the AC on so I am aclimatizing

the poor hens have never felt this heat and the heavier girls are having trouble with it. how do you keep yours cool? I have the back of the tractor proped up and the hinged roof partially open but still shading also giving plenty of water. its supposed to be 93 tommarow and 97 on saturday  I am going up north for the summer so i should be alright but I worry about the hens with just my mom and eventually the dog sitter taking care of them :|

Rain, rain, rain, rain, more rain....

"Don't plant corn and beans till soil is at least 55 and 60 respectively"

Yeah right. Wonder if I'll get anything to mature this summer or if it's gong to be a long cold summer filled with zucchinis.... it's June and the soil is still 50. I'm sure everything except the bok choi and snow peas are rotting in the soil.

At least we don't have tornadoes. Best of luck for those who have to deal with large forces that can damage buildings in an instant.

I did not know this until I visited the deeper South than Maryland but it is hotter and humidity is higher here for more of the summer than most of the states south of us because Baltimore and DC were built in a giant wetland its so gross here. I hate to say it but I am going north when I get older !!!!! we all become diurnal here in the summer and I am really worried I will lose some of my flock this summer when I am gone. Would anybody but me spend time outside in 110 degree heat trying to keep the hens cool and hauling out water spraying them with water ?
