Whats the weirdest thing your chickens have eaten or tried to eat??

We went fishing a few weeks ago and kept a smaller panfish (sac-a-lait and bream) to feed to our birds. I threw the fish into the oven for a bit to kill any parasites and then tossed it whole to the chickens. I was amazed. When I walked out of the run, they were all snatching bits off the fish, and I remembered thinking that they were going to pick the bones clean. Ha! I never did find the bones. I thought maybe a dog took what was left of the carcass. 2nd time - I kept 4 fish and fed them to the flock. I stayed in the run to see what happened. They tore them apart and ate the entire fish! Now I'm wondering if this is ok. Are the fish bones going to injure my birds?

Mine LOVE dog food!!! I also caught my Brown Leghorn with a mouse in her beak! Its crazy what they try to eat!

Since chickens are omnivores, I have not been surprised by the endless array of "foods" they take to eating. I have seen a frog, all sorts of bugs, basically, if it moves, it gets eaten.

I make sure that I go through the run with a magnet to make sure that no metal objects are out there.

My girls make me laugh when they attack a food item. My kids call them feathered piranahs.

There is nothing more entertaining than watching them go at it.

Mine seem to love:
dog poop (ewwwww)
toads (which makes the dog sick put the chickens are fine.)
a small grass snake
and a decent size chameleon which require a great deal of running around and smacking on the ground before Bard Rock Betty swallowed it whole and head first. I still get queasy when I picture it.

Our girls get a fresh 8x8 foot section of yard every other day. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING in that section of yard is safe. Any mole traveling just under the surface is in for a very bad day! One our girls is a lazy sod, though, & would rather ride on the tortoise than walk...
