whats the worst gift you have ever recieved?

Well, we never travel anywhere but my SIL insists on buying us a rolling 3 or 4 piece set of luggage every year...hard to make that thank you grin look sincere when unwrapping the fourth one in four years!!!! I think it runs in the family though because my MIL gave us a set of flatware every year with glee for about 10 years..not kidding at all!!! She just never remembered from year to year about the set she gave us the year before!!! ......I have sent ALOT of flatware and luggage to Goodwill over the years!!!

I think the worst present I've ever gotten was when my best friend gave my DH some very expensive sunglasses, designer muffler and gloves and gave me a bottle of cheap bath bubbles to which she knew I'd be allergic. A little later that night she proceeded to tell me that if I died (I was very ill at the time!) that she'd take care of my husband because she had to confess to being in love with him.

I would have had to take her outside at that point! and calmly "suggest" to her that she'd been drinking arsenic laced drinks since her smart *&^ comment, and that its best she hurry along to the nearest ER to get her stomach pumped!

Oh wow some of these stories are especially sad.

My parents have a history of giving bad gifts, or giving us things that we don't ask for, even if the things that we ask for are less expensive.(so it's definitely not that) The year that takes the cake for me is not a horrible gift that I received, but one that my sister received. Last year was the first year that my sister has spent Christmas with us since the early 90's. My parents told us that they wouldn't give much for Christmas that year b/c money was really tight. No big deal. Now it's a tradition in my family that we have Christmas morning at our house with the grandparents, then go over to theirs for Christmas.

So Christmas morning, We do Christmas over at our house and then we go over to their house and they have a brand new flat screen TV in their living room. Mind you for two months they had been playing up how broke they were. Now I believed (and still do) that they deserved to give themselves that TV, but on Christmas morning they give my sister's bf a used vase, they gave my sister a can opener and that's it, and gave me some used dirty perfume bottles with the $2 price tag still attached. I collect genie bottle style perfume bottles, so that wasn't all that far out in left field. But it really floored me that they shafted everyone so bad. I have become used to it, but my sister wasn't and since she had not been around the family much for so long, she really didn't expect everything that took place.

I really try to make it a point to give gifts that will be appreciated. I kind of obsess over it actually
