Hi, I'm new here. Heard about you folks from a co-worker. Turns out there are byc'ers all around me. Any way, I have a situation that I haven't found addressed anywhere else. I adopted 8 baby ringneck pheasants a little over a year ago. 5 females and 3 roosters. My boy "All That" killed the other 2 roosters and he has been a macho man ever since. By the way, pheasant hens lay a LOT of eggs. I got tired of collecting them and thought maybe someone would start setting. Someone did. But it's my rooster!! Tomarrow it will be a full week. He's very protective of his nest, pecking at the girls if they get too close. Every evening he gets up, eats and drinks, visits his girls, and lets the world know he's a macho man, then goes back to his nest. He has about 10 eggs.
I noticed that some of you have been raising pheasants for a lot of years and was wondering if you've seen this before. Will he keep it up and hatch them out? Will he raise them once they've hatched? I'm really baffled. I would love any input you have. I'm supposed to be gone on vacation about the time they would hatch. I've got 15 pheasant eggs in the incubator now that should be hatching out in about 4 days. I also have 16 assorted hens, 4 beautiful little black juniors I traded for pheasant eggs, and 2 americauna babies I hatched in my incubator last week. So cute. I've got plenty of experience with chickens, But these pheasants are a new wonder everyday. Every time "All That" sounds off I just grin. So if you have input about his behavior please let me know. Thanks

Wow! thats interesting, i've never heard or seen a ringneck pheasant rooster incubate eggs.
I'm sure if he's protective of the nest and keeps incubating them you have a good chance they'll hatch.

Good Luck!!

Hopefully someone will reply with more information about this.

I'm Stumped But Kinda New To Pheasants... Send A Pm To 1 Of These Guys And Ask Them Directly. They Handle Pheasants Extensively--- Steelshot. Wilds Of Pa. Or Hinksjc. Ask 1 Of Them. As Far As Mr Happy Eliminating All The Competition --- Thats Normal In A Low Hen Environment. Good Luck With That Broody Cock! Pix Would Be Nice!

I have had several occasions where the male pheasant hatched the chicks, and then was an awesome Dad. The first time it happened I thought it was insane. I have had ringnecks, silvers, and yellow goldens do it. I would let him be and enjoy the fruits of his labors.

So glad to hear my boy is not the first and there is hope. As soon as I get batteries for the camera I'll send pics. BTW I have 4 pheasant eggs pipping in the incubator. Should have babies by the time I get home from work. Hopefully the other 11 will follow suite.

Cool No Disney Land Dads Here. I Like A Fella That Takes The Bull By The Horns When It Comes To Raising Kids! My Hats Off To Him......and When He's Done Send Him To Florida For A Vacation Maybe He Can Teach Mine To Do It!

Well he's still at it. He's very devoted. Even when he gets off to stretch and eat he walks back over and checks on them. I totally applaud him. It's been 104-106 for the last week or so. I would have said to heck with it, but not him! I did take some pictures, but I haven't figured out how to post them. I read the instructions and everything. "Literate & comprehension" are not in my computer vocabulary. I'm going to try and get a friend to help me.
He really is a very strikingly handsome boy. I do wish you could see him. I tell people about it and they say uh huh, sure! Thanks for asking
