? What's wrong with her??

I only ask because exposing birds to artificial light at night BEFORE they lay can exacerbate egg yolk peritonitis.

Symptoms of egg yolk peritonitis: loss of appetite/anorexia, weakness, depression, respiratory distress, lethargy, fluffed feathers, lack of vocalizations, yolk-colored droppings, swollen vent and/or abdomen (the swelling feels spongy to the touch), sudden death.

^ That's why I ask.

Are any of your other chickens exhibiting any weird symptoms? Coughing, sneezing, wheezing, bubbly eyes? Lethargy?

I would do a necropsy on the pullet that died. I am very sorry for your loss... we need to figure out what's happening with your girls. :(

You asked me if I do that to have them lay eggs & my answer was to share that I do not....

The University of PA-Chicken lab is a hop skip and and jump from my house, so I always eventually know why a chicken dies...
For instance: Cleo -had tumors and it was an abnormality prior to her being hatched.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's cocci from being inside for several days during wet conditions.
In addition to that, I found poo near the waterer -right where sweetie (that was her name) was drinking from last night.
I've spent the day cleaning the entire coop. Everything is fresh now and all of the girls are on corid.

The follow-up post was only for informational purposes. :) I'm glad you (will) give your girls an egg vacation during winter!

I hope that the Corid perks her up and prevents anything further from going around in your flock.

Please keep us updated!
