I only ask because exposing birds to artificial light at night BEFORE they lay can exacerbate egg yolk peritonitis.

Symptoms of egg yolk peritonitis: loss of appetite/anorexia, weakness, depression, respiratory distress, lethargy, fluffed feathers, lack of vocalizations, yolk-colored droppings, swollen vent and/or abdomen (the swelling feels spongy to the touch), sudden death.

^ That's why I ask.

Are any of your other chickens exhibiting any weird symptoms? Coughing, sneezing, wheezing, bubbly eyes? Lethargy?

I would do a necropsy on the pullet that died. I am very sorry for your loss... we need to figure out what's happening with your girls.

I'm glad you (will) give your girls an egg vacation during winter!
