Whats wrong with Lucy the layer?? Please help

Hi everyone - Lucy my hen, was an excellent layer for at least 6 - 8 months until just recently. She doesnt seem to want to come out of her little comfy nesting area and hasnt knocked out a single egg in over 2 weeks now? I am not sure if this is because of the hot weather or something else...?


As this is our first chicken, we want to do the right thing and look after her. Do i need to take her to the vet or is this normal behaviour for a chicken who is around 12 months old?

She's waiting for a blessed event

If you want to "fix" it, either see if she'll hatch some fertile eggs or look up "broody busting" or "busting up a broody" for ways to get her mind off it.

Okay thanks guys, i thought it may have been something like that as she does get a bit peeved at me when i try and see what she is up to....

I will lift her off the nest and let her cruise around for a bit and see if that helps her get back on the lay + be a bit happier! Mind you i am enjoying the quietness, she doesnt nearly seem as vocal as what she was before
