What's wrong with their feathers?

My egg pics are light but the blue's are a pretty blue. Several of my pullets have not started laying so hopefully more blue eggs are on the way. How many I'd guess maybe 20+. Only really bad comb was my original roo and that's why I retired him once I had replacements. Most just get a little bigger than I'd like. We just can't make the 5 hr trip each way to get birds right now.

Yeah and I love it when we get one of these silkied that shows nice egg color,, I get so excited! Lol bad combs on boys ughhh my main issue with my oldest roo right now... Everything was fine..then comb explosion...I call it fluffy comb invasion around what 8 to 10 months? They just get a a thing I dunno...even the regular ams don't get it this bad...I am culling for it now...I get rid of boys that have the invasion. Lol.. Hey how many birds do you have now? We should do a swap or something...I have ended up with some niceeeee splashes ....yep girls. One is super sweet ( cringe) but I need adult blacks!!

That's what my blue's are when they start laying. They are so light now it's hard to get the pic right. Great to see the blue passing on!

Okay I got another egg today and a better picture. I set it in the shade, in a sand pile, next to a BR egg

I have one blue. Starting getting their new coop together. Have sand in coop and working on the run, will be putting sand in it and putting a new tarp on top to keep rain and snow out. Knowing that is around the corner. I can't wait to start hatching their eggs in about three weeks. :D

I'm already doing ams...LF and I
Have bantams but not silkied...whatcha Thinking?
I have a project started using my bantam hen, Pixie, and my Serama cockerel, Ace. My project is for chocolate and black, silkied bantam rumpless/tufted. Since they would not be eligible for any sort of Araucana label, I'm simply not calling them anything but a project at this time.

Pixie's breeding is bantam chocolate Orp/bantam Ameraucana rooster over my smaller but standard size black Araucana hens. She is chocolate, double tufted and rumpless with white skin/legs.
Ace is American Serama. Coal black, no leakage, silked feathering.

I know I'll have chicks I'll be culling. Those that I won't need will be the tailed ones with white skin. A clean faced, pea combed, silkied or silkied split with a tail would work well crossed to a bantam Ameraucana that is correct. There will still be culls, the ones with a straight comb will be sold as mixed breed pets. What I plan to keep are the ones with yellow skin, rumpless.

Here is Pixie, she is molting and has a lot of her fresh chocolatey feathering back in but more to go. She lays a beautiful blue egg. The Serama's I've had laid a wide range of white to cream to light brown eggs so there may be some that lay a greenish tint to the blue eggs. but I've had good luck in correcting that in a season or two. I bought Ace so I'm going to have to check with his breeder to see what color his hens lay.

Here is Ace, Silkied Serama, no Silkied breed so no issues with blue legs, black skin, walnut comb etc. I have made the Araucana to Serama cross before and had absolutely no issues with correcting the wingset to a more horizontal carriage. The chicks matured to look pretty much like the Araucana, but very small. Ace weighs about 23 ounces.

So Are you trying to find a place to send your culls? T sell them what exactly would you wanna do? I love the almost coming together look( Almost) of the little hen pixie...love the markings I think it way to much project for me and too many generations to put in...I'm having a hard enough time sticking to making my Lav silkied ams. You could call them "chocolate chips!"

Lol, She will end up all dark brown. Chocolates fade in the sun pretty badly. She was all the same color then sunbleached out to all that light color. The darker feathers are the fresh feathers coming in after molting the old stuff.
Not a problem as far as the culls. They will all be adorable so they should sell well. Hoping their won't be a whole lot of culls but I would always rather they go to someone interested in what they have to offer than just being pets or dinner but that's okay too. My Araucana projects (LF and bantam) follows closely the Ameraucana project you have going here and the ones that don't meet your needs, your culls, are useful to me so anyone with silkied that are clean faced would be great in my project while I'm getting started. I have some to hatch from the Silkied Am's and some of these will not work in my project too.
