and one of their first eggs, Don't know if it was the blue or black. Now it is time to put them in a breeding house
Congrats! Looks they are breeding just fine where they are...lol your splash roo is pretty the pullet is awesome I really like her! Nice egg not so olive as they like to lay,you are getting a nice start on egg color hard to tell in that light.
The egg is blue, lighting is bad. They should lay blue they are AM's not OE's. I have to separate them there is a wheaten Marans on that coop also, they will go in there own coop
Eggs color has been and in some cases continues to be something that the people who have been in this project a long time, have had to work on,even though they are pure Ams. My original birds I had before, laid kinda a greenish blue. Eggs I got from alicefelldown when she was leaving the project were darn near olive lol..I only have my original roo left and that is the roo I am using now,he is a bird I got from Catkai Way back when. He is obviously putting the blue in his eggs since I've seen his children lay and they lay blue. I have now got a whole new flock being raised...just gotta wait till they lay I expect them to lay blue as mine here always did.. Meanwhile I can only use my OEs for the silkied gene...it is basically something to play with, until my whole flock of silkied ams gets old enough, they are staggered ages... ALL CatKai babies. I pretty much love every thing that I ever get from her.

My splash hen lays a light blue egg, some of the blue hens lay blue and some blue green. I have a couple still laying the olive color & 1 green. Your splash with the red bleed on the wings look like cockerel's to me. I have not had any of the girls show it yet. Some of the boys have it, some don't.

Splash are my favorites but the blacks are a close 2nd.
Congrats on the first egg! Those blues are very pretty; I'm finding I'm exceptionally fond of the blacks with silkied feathering, but the blues are a close second!

I know you love the splashes you turn out some awesome ones...I secretly wanna come to your house and see your birds you keep...must be awesome! I just think seeing them in person would be an experience lol. I prefer blacks. Maybe because they are essential to what I am working on...:)

Top pic is with flash, other w/out, taken inside near a window. Top row is Silkied Ameraucana, other my regular Ameraucana. Pics look a little light on my screen. The eggs are getting a little lighter now from the hens that have been laying awhile. Most of these are of pullet eggs. B = blue, BG blue-green, G = green, O = olive color not olive egger.

Mine here probably look pretty much like the birds you have from me

My only complaints would be some red bleed on some boys & ugly combs on some boys too. I like the look of the black over the blue. But blue has never been a favorite. You'd not know it by the # of blue birds I have... Set up for the Silkied Ameraucana here now will be a coop with splash roo's, blue & splash hens & the other coop will be the black. My blacks came from my blue coop. LBKS has the roo & hens they hatched from.

Yeah and I love it when we get one of these silkied that shows nice egg color,, I get so excited! Lol bad combs on boys ughhh my main issue with my oldest roo right now... Everything was fine..then comb explosion...I call it fluffy comb invasion around what 8 to 10 months? They just get a a thing I dunno...even the regular ams don't get it this bad...I am culling for it now...I get rid of boys that have the invasion. Lol.. Hey how many birds do you have now? We should do a swap or something...I have ended up with some niceeeee splashes ....yep girls. One is super sweet ( cringe) but I need adult blacks!!
