What's wrong with their feathers?

I don't live far from Edencamp, my eggs came from her and the ones I can't use, I'll swap with her for clean faced. The ones I can't use of the bantams should go somewhere. Hoping someone will think they need them ;)

Oh I mess that I don't have clean faced at all..Would love some bantams ameraucanas... But not clean faced. Matter of fact aloft mine have double copies lol...I am gonna stalk someone on here come spring for lav bantam ameraucanas! Lol unless I get vetoed

Silkied Serama... I think I like! My oldest DD was looking for a breed to show and stumbled upon the seramas and thought they were cool.

I have bantam lav ams in bator now. :)

With where the choc/mauve silkied project is, there are still recessives lurking from injecting the source of the choc genes into Ameracauna breed. Consequently, yes, from time to time smooth faced and other offenses will pop up. Cullable birds for us, but a better type fit for other projects going in other directions - like smoothmules. One chicken-head's trash is another's treasure!

You are right! twice, lol

That's why I wanted to share the chicks that do not fit into my bantam project. None of them start out "correct". But it's really not that hard to fix things and then you have your own line of them and that is "sweeeet"
I think I have more fun with starting from scratch, you pick up a gene for something here, another gene for something you need there, and soon.... you have it put together and all you have to do is refine it. You all are very fortunate that there was someone that recognized the value of that first Silkied and worked so hard to make it available to others to work on and it's not a finished project, very fun!

Well, if anyone decides to work with bantams and wants to give it a try with the silkied, then they won't have to breed down the large fowl. The Serama is a true bantam and not LF counterpart so when I get these first chicks, there will be some here that I cull that have the pea comb and lay blue eggs, have white legs and a tail plus are or carry chocolate and silkied. This cross also does not have the Silkied breed comb, skin color, top knot, feathered legs etc to fix either

Not really a whole lot to fix with some good bantam black Am's.

Hatching chicks today. Of a dozen eggs, ten candled good and ten are hatching. So far, most are blue I think but they aren't don't drying. Eight out safely, big fat chickies, one nearly out and the last one is pipped.

Now, these are not shipped eggs, I'm close enough that I drove an hour or so to pick up the eggs but well worth the drive. The chicks are fat, active and robust right out of the shell.

Now, wondering how long before I can tell if any of them are Silkied? There are some already showing the little chipmunk cheeks but pretty sure there's clean faced too, those will stay, the puffy cheekers need to go where they will benefit this project and not be lost. I have 2 large fowl chocolate hens that are Orpington/Ameraucana cross so I may cross a cockerel with these girls too, they will add more genes even if there is another bit of Orp added.......cull cull cull. At least all the cockerels will carry chocolate.
