What's wrong with their feathers?

Very important point to remember!

I had someone email me once in bold letters and exclaimation points at the end, and I assumed I was being yelled at. I got upset and yelled back! Uh-oh, she wasn't yelling at all. Boy did I feel like a big dope!

Instead of calling them Silky Ameraucanas..

I would call them Wooly Ameraucanas

Or how about WoolEEs

I love your birds by the way. They are very pretty. Wish I could have some. But right now I cant have chickens.. Only can have quail here, per rental agreement. In the future I would love to get some of these..

Sometimes I can tell by other posts or if in response to my post whether or not tone is being misread and will try to clarify. Sometimes it's not just tone, but also context being misread. Had it happen just last week as a matter of fact. If tone and context are misread and clarification doesn't help I chalk it up to someone who just wants to argue and will usually just leave the thread. Spend enough time on forums and it's bound to happen.

If there is an official name at this point, I'm afraid I missed it. TBH I don't know why calling them silkied Ams if that is the ultimate goal is a problem. If I want to work towards creating blue Brahmas or silkied Polish, that's what I'd call them and then people would easily know what my end goal was and could more easily make suggestions to help me achieve that goal. If they don't know what I'm trying to accomplish, they can't help guide me. If I'm shooting for a LF blue-egg laying Silkie from these birds, I'm going to get different recommendations.

Now when it comes to the hatcheries and breeders selling Araucanas and Ameraucanas when they know full well they are selling EEs..........

Not the case here that I've seen. Not saying it will never happen, but it's not the current situation.

Yes the true breeders should be up in arms over that and rightly so, but it needs to stay directed at the proper party. Sadly kids are often in the mix. Dealing with the disappointment of the brown eggs they get vs the blue they were anxiously awaiting and/or being disqualified at their local fair when they've invested so much time into their bird is truthfully enough. 4-6 months is a lifetime for a kid.

I would like to see that stopped, but the most progress I've seen to date is some places adding EE to the list and adding a disclaimer that all egg colors are possible.

The genes responsible for disintegrated barbules ie "silky" feathering, is present in many old breeds and reappears in stock that is closely bred for more than a few generations. I have them pop up from time to time in Crested Mapuche fowl and just set them aside-treating them as silkies- breeding like with like- many people are not aware that (originall) white and black silkies had separate histories- in other words they did not originate from the same stock or even generated by the same culture. Frizzzled and Silky plumaged birds were known on Easter Island prior to European visitation -so in my opinion we needn't get excited when it pops up from time to time.

Will give them a couple more days before I open to take a sad look-see.

Best wishes to both of you .
