That site is interesting too!! Awesome site!!!

Whoever starts this venture of out crossing to attain different color pattern, I would love to read/see your progress!!! It would definitely be a worthwhile thread!! Good luck to the person(s) who attempt that!!!

The mention of different colors being introduced makes me wonder about the future plans with these birds .
Julie , I assume you have a breeding goal since you mentioned possibly culling the EE colored bird [ the blue/red splash ] from your program and purchased only blacks and blues to start making splits .
Do you have a standard of perfection [edt to remove stutter ] in mind ?
Will you keep them splash only or start keeping blue and black also ?
Since another owner is possibly introducing lavender , will lavenders become a part of the project also ?
Will you breed away from Ozzie Jr.'s walnut type comb and towards the Ameraucana pea comb ; or towards the modified walnut ?
Thanks , Steve

SteveH,

My plan would be to try and get back as close to the Ameraucana standard as possible, and breed for colors. Several of us are introducing the blue/black ones. And some others are wanting to try for lavender and possibly wheaten colors.

I think it would be better to go for a silkied variety of Ameraucana, rather than a totally new breed. But they may never be accepted in the Ameraucana circles.

Thanks Julie . I don't believe you need to worry about whether or not the members of the Ameraucana Breeders Club will be supportive of a silkied version or not . I believe your birds are gaining enough popularity to stand on their own . I wish everyone involved in breeding these birds the best . If APA acceptence is the final goal then keeping a unified group of breeders phocused on a commonly agreed standard will be difficult but paramount IMHO .

Has anyone posted over there directing them to this site? These birds are really nice looking what ever they are.

I'd like to try some eggs to.

Silly question probably , but are the ones that looked haired [ stringy or ropey ] just less dense in their feathering than the plusher examples , or are their feathers/silk actually longer than their siblings ? I ask because the two types remind me of the difference between breeds considered hard feathered and those considered soft feathered ; and to a minor degree you see these same differences in some Ameraucanas .

I have one hen laying again. I just got my fourth egg from her, and I've been getting one egg every other day. I wanted to make sure she was laying consistently before I told anyone.

That doesn't give me enough to be able to ship out eggs just yet, but it makes me hopeful that the others will start laying soon.

SteveH - the ropey ones to me just aren't as fluffy textured. The feathers have more of the barbing, so not quite as dense. And the ends of the feathers sort of come to a point.
