What's wrong with their feathers?

All crickets and tumbleweeds here for me. My pure Amera girls are almost 7 months and no eggs. My Fluffy Roo is in there with them. My F1s from Jubaby are still growing, several months away on those.

Hoping to get the 'bator going in Jan.

If only mine were laying/mating! I'd love to have more hatch on on NYD! I'll just have to be patient I suppose...

It will happen , but in their time .

Mine are near 7 months , one finally laid her first egg last week , so there is hope for your Jan setting .

My little girl didn't make it.

The fowl pox overwhelmed her. Now I'm down to just 1 F1 baby, which I'm pretty sure is a roo. Now what the heck do I do with him?!

Breed him to pure Ameraucanas, and breed his daughters back to him - even if he's split to the silkied gene (as opposed to visual), he can still pass it on to some of his offspring. Sorry about your little girl tho...

My little one is two months old now, looking like a rooster - LOVE those silkied feathers!! One of "his" girls started to lay about a week ago, even in this frigid weather! Hopefully the other girls will follow suit, and I can get everybody together in the spring.

As requested, here are some more recent photos. The first 2 are of Warhol, the cockerel I hatched. He will initially be paired with Wheaten Ameraucana pullets.

Next is an F1 cockerel that was sent to me by Kathyinmo. He's growing like wildfire!

Lastly is Liza, the pullet, also sent to me by Kathy. She's a little slow at everything. Whenever she seems like she may lay, she'll be partnered off with the F1 boy.

So far so good! I think I'm on track for springtime eggs!

So sorry for your loss. Your best bet will be to get some more eggs in the spring. There should be several of us who will have them! Of course, you can breed him as suggested. Save a bunch of his daughters, some of whom will also be split, and then cross them back to him. You won't know who's carrying the gene, but at least you'll have a chance of making more!

It's about time I post a pic or two of my kids.

I got a small batch of them from Julie in September, and they were doing great until last week. I have heat in with them at night as we've had teens and they aren't yet fully fledged. One had a severely crossed beak and I'd just decided she wasn't eating enough when she passed- she wasn't quite right in other ways, so it was for the best, I think. Sure did love her- the coloring was different: almost a pearly white with nearly a complete absence of blue in the splash except as a cast to the white. Lovely

I also lost the largest of all of them, clearly a roo. Same night, without any reason. The cross-beak was in the house, so I know it wasn't the conditions, and many smaller birds weathered that night fine in the same coop, so it wasn't the conditions for him, either. Stinks.

I do still have 2 F1s and 7 others, so if all goes well I'll be breeding them this Spring. I've got a pair of Peruvian Nikkei I'll be breeding them with, as well, as a side project. Putting those genes into the mix ought to produce a lovely SA bird with a good diversity to the genes.

Nevermind the banty Cochin- she's a camera-hog. She is split for the Silken gene, though, as part of the Silken banty cochin project Steve Wheat has going. I have several of those, too...Sucker for furry chickens, I guess?

One has a very distinct gold or red splash as evenly placed on the body as the blue/black splashes. It's quite a nice calico look, and I wonder if we can duplicate it intentionally.
