What's wrong with their feathers?

Woo hoo! My roo, Warhol, has started showing interest in the girl! He was chasing a Silver Ameraucana girl around the yard this morning, and pestering her like an adolescent punk! He's been so timid and well mannered, I was worried that his hormones wouldn't kick in. Still no crows out him surprisingly... So by the time "his" girls are laying again, he should have figured out how it all works!

Any other news/progress out there?

Who is closest to California that has some of the Silkied Ameraucanas?

ETA: & that would be willing to sell eggs or chicks in the springtime.

Only Julie would really know. I'm guessing no more than 100. Probably closer 50 or so. This spring should be good for their numbers as the next generation will be laying. Fingers crossed!

Not that I'm aware of. I don't think any of the F1's are quite mature enough yet, but some should be close. My F1 cockerel is starting to mount the hens, so he'll have it figured out soon enough. He's not the oldest of the F1's, but is one of the older ones. I'll be mating him to my silkied hen when she starts laying. He's blue, and she's splash, so the best I can hope for is blue and splash birds.

Someone may have F1's mated to each other, which would give blue, black, and splash birds, but I just don't think any are old enough to lay yet. Ameraucanas are slow with their eggs, and these are no exception!

Ok, the 1 F1 that I have left is now 5 months old and I'm almost positive it's a hen.

I really needed a roo to be able to start breeding with just one. Sigh. Seems like I have had extremely bad luck from the very beginning of this project...first batch of eggs did nothing, second batch hatched 2 which both died within days, and now just 1 F1 and it's a GIRL! I suppose with any other breed I'd be calling myself lucky that it's a girl.

Anyways, I'm ready for eggs and/or a roo if anyone has one to part with, so bring it on spring!!!
