What's wrong with their feathers?

Do you mean the Silkie test matings to confirm if the mutation was hookless? None of these birds were bred to any Silkies - we've traced their lineage through the last 10 years of breeders who have confirmed that there were never any such crossings.

yes thats what i meant that you proven it was not silkies in the beginning

Well I've been initiated. Had my first mystery death today.

My favorite F1, the only blue pullet. Now I'm REALLY hoping that the two splash "pullets" really are girls. I know the two remaining blues are cockerels.

Anyone care to hazard a guess on the sex of my little silkied guy? I'm thinking cockerel. S/he is six weeks old.

Nicole - I vote cockerel on the silkied guy.

I had a "mystery" death today too...one of my F2 pullets. I think it has to be the heat. It was scorching here yesterday and today...I felt like I was going to have a heat stroke just opening the back door.

There are 2 blue silkied, 2 splash silkied, 1 blue normal, and 3 splash normals. I'm SOOOO excited. These are the first silkied birds I've had that have been vigorous and healthy. All 8 are doing well and running around their brooder like crazy. They also have 4 bantam Cochin brooder mates.

Woohooo! I wanted a blue silkied one sooo badly when mine hatched! I think the blacks will be gorgeous once we get to that point.

All this hatching is making me want more eggs.

unfortunatly these birds are far from perfect! They are beautiful, but still on the very "endangered speicies list" the good folks in this very exhausting project have worked for several years...my hats off.
