What's wrong with this hen's vent please?

Good thread and good call on the prolapse. I also had to debri my prolapsed hen. It was pretty gross. Only thing I havent seen mentioned is stop her laying for a while. Put her in a different cage if you havent already in a dark room.
A tums will give her stronger contractions to help hold her innards in. Crush it and sprinkle it on a scrambled egg. I used aloe to help speed healing after mine was clean and on the mend. She is a production breed ? They are more prone to having these type of problems . Do you have calcium free choice for them ?
Edited to add , epsom salts in the soak water and trim those feather is helpful.

Hello LittleMoss.

I’m glad Ginger is doing better.
I wonder if you could post the name of your vet and the area his practice is in. You don’t have a location set on your profile.
I’m trying to put together a bit of information on UK vets that will treat chickens.
Uhmmm...I do believe the he you referred to is a SHE. Just sayin her vet was a woman! (Waiting for blowback on this post)

Hi Shadrach,
the vet is Wendy Lane Vets. They have a website, if you want to add that to your database. We live on the edge of the countryside, so I suppose the vets have to expect people to turn up with hens! But maybe that's not always the case, I've never been to another vet's.

Ginger is better! When we took her back to the vet's, everything was clear and there were no polyps after all - the five days of antibiotics really seemed to clear everything up. So it was just the result of a partial prolapse. Her feathers are growing back now and we're hoping to put her back with the other hens pretty soon. Hopefully it won't happen again!
