Terrie. Someone just started a thread asking what to do on their Hawaiian vacation if you have an ounce of humanity in you I beg you to lock it down. I mean c'mon this is just being mean!
I don't even want to see the 5 day in Hawaii aaarrrggg.
ETA Spelling
Friday: high 23, low 16, 30% chance of snow
Saturday: high 23, low 11, 30% chance of snow
Sunday: high 30, low 14, 0% chance of snow
Monday: high 39, low 22, 10% chance of (probably) rain
We never get snow this much here, it has snowed for 3 days already, and will the next 3 as well. Now, the snow that we've gotten already is not much, but it is still snow. Luckily, the sun still warms it up enough to melt
ETA: But after this nasty weather, we are supposed to get back to 'normal': highs in the 40s lows in the 20s. Gonna feel like a heat wave
The problem that we have in the south is that we aren't built for (as in homes) or prepared for, (as in pipes) for extended cold temps. The cold doesn't bother me much, I hate it, but have lived in cold towns like Balto and Denver.
I haven't had any frozen pipes yet, but am definately looking for trouble soon. We haven't had this extended cold for a long time and I have a friend in southern MS that has no heat and burst pipes right now.
One thing we're watching out for is a loss of power or a frozen well. It's done it before and I'm amazed that it hasn't frozen yet this year.
Everyone keep warm, Spring is going to get here soon!
I hear you on that one. When I lived in the mountain in San Diego, the water would freeze in the pipes if it got to 30. If someone forgot to leave the water running, we wouldn't have a drop of water for 10 hours.
Yep, very frustrating! A frozen well is about the most annoying thing ever!
Just in case some one hasn't said it, with the unusual cold, DO NOT use kerosene heaters in small spaces, do NOT use propane gas grill or charchol grills INSIDE for ANY REASON!!
If you use candles or a fireplace, make sure that the area is well ventilated and that candles are out of reach of anyone. If you have oil lamps, set them high and safely for light.
Fill up your bathtubs if you are on an electric well. Make sure that you fill several cleaned out 2 liter bottles for drinking, washing, cooking, etc.
If your pipes do burst, make sure that you know where the water main is located before this happens. If you cn, wrap your pipes outside with several towels and a bucket on top of those so if you can use them, you will have acess and you won't have a mess.
If you have a gas grill you can use OUTSIDE, and it has a third burner, use it for cooking eggs, spagetti, get creative! If you have cast iron, go for it on the grill itself, Lord knows a good cast iron can take it!
If you have a ranch style home and a fireplace in the main LR, please keep your thickest comforters reserved for hanging over doorways to keep the heat in one room or rooms off of the main one with the fireplace. We had to do that with one nasty ice storm and it kept us all warm, BUT we don't have high ceilings.
If you have a generator, wonderful, I WISH I had one about right now!
