What's Your Chickens names and Why are they named that?

The first four birds I got I had to let my son name so he would help me go get them. This is what he came up with:
Caty - head feathers were the same color as my DD hair (GLW)
Ashley - DS's girlfriend at the time (GLW)
Star - she had lots of little white feathers on her black head at the time (SLW)
Midnight - her head was mainly black at the time (SLW)

I have been bad and have not named the other four pullets yet but the roo is Mr. Cogburn for obvious reasons!

All my hens had names when they were babies. but I have lost track of who is who now that they have all grown up and luck different. The only ones with names now are the rooster (Dominick, because he was supposed to be a dominecker but turned out to be a barred rock, "Pluck", who is a little red hen that for the longest time when she was a baby had only one lonely little tail feather, and Tequila, a barred rock hen who has a very distinctive voice and actually says "CABO.....WABO....CABO....WABO" when she is walking around in the yard.

Sweetie Pie, production red rooster, named by my five year old when he was still a chick and still a sweetie pie.

Sunflower, buff Orpington pullet. She's yellow and cheerful.

Desdemona, black and brown EE pullet. She was a demon chick, always chasing everyone else around and giving me the stink eye.

Black Frost, black and white EE pullet, named by my five year old because, well, she's black and white!

The first names come from NCIS:

Ziva - Easter Egger - who may very well be a Zivo and get rehomed. Better name would have been "Bull in a china shop"

DiNozzo "Di" - would have been a gogeous Light Brahma but only lived a week

Abby - Speckled Sussex - she may very well be a bantam or a runt as she is now 7 weeks old and the size of a 2 week old - even chirps like a 2 week old but she acts like a 7 week old and is scrappy. She ducks under the others to get at food and is the first to find any earthworms. She tends to get cold so I have a heat lamp under the coop overhang for her.

Gibbs - Blue Cochin - on the small side now an hoping she will grow up to be a big honcho like Gibbs in the show (but see further down)

McGee - Welsummer - may truly be a McGee (male) and get rehomed

(really wanted a duck to call him/her "Ducky")

These are "duhs":

Blackberry** - Black Australorp - obvious

Cashew** - Buff Orpington - again, obvious

Lacey** - Golden Laced Wyandotte - ditto

Adriana - Barred Plymouth Rock - Named for the female character (Adrian) in the Rocky movie. Adriana seemed more feminine but me thinks "Adriana" might be an Adrian instead. Time will tell.

** - all official members of the "why do we need a roost when we have mom" club.

And last, but not least, my regal:

(Currently) Stevie - Dark Brahma - My last acquisiton and she will be a big girl! Named for Stevie Nicks but it just doesn't fit. This girl is the friendliest girl, loves to be held and coos to me all the time. She even growled once when another chicken got between her and me while I was holding her on my lap. I would never have believed that a chicken so be so loving! I have read all the names above and none seem right either. If she would have been a he, it would have been "Barack O'Brahma."

I really wanted a Cuckoo Maran to be named "Espresso" for those dark, dark eggs.

Our chickens always get the names they get called as nicknames. The Production Red is Cherry because the lady we got her from said she was a Cherry Egger. The black star is named Rockstar because some people call them Black Stars and others call them Black Rock Stars. The Buff Orpington is Honey because that's what color she is. The Rhode Island is called Henny Penny because I always wanted a chicken with that name. The bossy one, a Barred Rock, is Henry because she tries to be so controlling like a rooster, but she's a hen. The last, another Barred Rock, is cuddles because she was the cuddliest as a chick.

Sunny, Scrambles and Shania

I figured chickens should be named after what they do, hence the first two. Shania was going to be 'Ms. Benedict' but she started freaking out during the car ride home whenever a peepy Shania Twain song would play.

Mickey...white rooster
minnie...Delaware hen
daisy... Reddish hen....some times called old red.

Because my 3 year old grandaughter named them !!

Jade and Onyx my two Barred Rocks
Ruby the RIR
Opal and Pearl the Orpington sisters

Anyone notice a theme? I design jewelry for a hobby so the big girls all ended up with stone names.

Horace the Colombian Brahma Banty: he sounded like he was going to chock every time he tried to crow when he was learning.
Claire Horace's mate just cause it is pretty and so is she.

Tillie the black cochin banty she just looks like one.

Peony the lemon D uccle.

Orlie the MF D uccle I think this is just the coolest name for a rooster.

I hope I have worked out a naming system that is flexible enough to handle the changing population while I learn about breeding and apply that knowledge.
I have (or will have as of Wed) male and females of Speckled Sussex, Delawares, EEs, Naked Necks, Blue Andalusian, Black Silkies and female NHR.
The dominant roo will have his name, Oakley for the Naked Neck roo, and all the girls will be Annie with an extension, such as Annie Dot, Annie Red, Annie Yellow Cap...... If the characteristic that gives the extension changes, I can use the simple name, or a number when all the girls look a like, quite probably with the NHR. (All BeBe).
Speckled Sussex will be Anatevka and Goldie. The current roo is Punkit, he had such an attitude as a chick, at 3 wks he had a huge comb, and was very slow feathering, didn't get any tail until nearly 2 months. Anyway he is a sweet roo and takes care of the girls, but I don't have fertile eggs, so he will be retired in the spring, when all the young men want to be in charge.
Delawares will be Dover and Dellie, and I will put Dover on the NHRs
Blue Andalusian will be Bill and Lois.
I'll have to see the EE's to decide, they come in too many colors and characteristics to decide before hand.
The only exception to the naming pattern will be the Silkies, and the Males will be Kiko(mann), Udon and Soba, and the girls will be Nori, Saki and Yaki, all being Japanese edibles.

Hopefully this will work, I would tangle up the names of my kids to the point where I would point and say, "You!You know who I am talking to!

When we got our first batch of chickens, my daughter was four and just learning to spell. We each named two, so hers were Ant and Cat, because those were names she could spell!
