Whats your favorite breed of...

That's great, I know that fall anticipation feeling, it was always time to head to the Airport around here and pick up or send out ducks, I was like a kid a Christmas! I went on and started a migratory thread just now too, hope to get some hits on it. I love talking about them.... Try the Baikal and Falcated teal if you havent looked into them yet, they are a touch pricey, but my God they are nice!
Garganey and sharpwing teals are nice too!
Congrats on the plans for '10!

I would have to say Runners. I love the way mine all look out in the backyard.

17 all the same shape but 12 different colours amoung them. They have a charater about them that is so endearing.

But without the limited space I have for ducks, there are a few other breeds I would love to keep.

#1 Muscovies (of course!)
#2 White Crested/Crested Pekins
#3 Blue Swedish
#4 MUTTS!

I REALLY loved all my 'mutt' babies, hopefully i will be able to get some eggs from the person that bought them later on.

I agree that as far as beauty is concerned you can't beat the wild ducks. I just don't see them as easy to keep as the domestics. And the prices... heh, they are a bit pricey for the backyard flock keeper.

I agree as fars as that goes, some are $1000's per pair, most are in the $40-$150 range though. Aside from the diving birds, they tend to be kept just like domestics though, same requirments and such, you juts dont need to free range them unless they are pinioned and on a large open pond is all... the divers do require a more specific diet to replace all the hi pro fish and crustacean diet they get in the wild. This can be easily done with floating catfish feed, but yes much more involved than domestics, but that's part of what I love about them, they're different.....
