what hens are pretty or interesting, friendly, and lay a good amount of eggs? I already have RIR's and barred rocks and am thinking of adding a few.

What is your opinion for a breed? Pictures would be great! thanks.

EE are sweet, colorful, lay lots of colored eggs, and are a lot of fun. I wouldn't ever have a flock without them.

Love my Wyandottes. I'm planning to slowly move the whole flock to them over time (except for maybe a token "unusual" breed here and there). Nice thing about the 'dottes is that they come in so many colors that I can still have a rainbow flock

Since you already have Barred Rocks(my favorites

) I would recommend Black Austrolorps. Mine are very sweet, docile and pretty darn quiet. They very rarely skip a day laying for me. Believe it or not, out of the many beautiful birds I have in my flock, a lot of people ask me about them first.

Love my black aussies too. And they are the quietest of all and are very sweet-natured and productive. The absolute gentlest of all chooks I have seen. One will come when I am doing chicken TV and get into my lap for a nap. The other breeds want to sit on my arms and shoulders and tell me all about their day.

I also would recommend golden comet or golden sex link. Not as affectionate or quiet, but bonafide egg laying machines.

I have BOs and Wyandottes. Both are awesome, sweet, and reliable egg layers. Can't choose between them. But I'm also getting a EE and a Welsummer this spring so we'll see....

Today... my Salmon Fav's for sure! I just went out to collect eggs and there were 5 eggs... from 3 hens! I know it sounds impossible... I'm still pretty surprised by it myself...
