What's Your Favorite Vacuum Cleaner?

Well, the Oreck is out now that I realized there aren't hose attachments. Plus, there is no dirt so worth vacuuming that would make me willing to make monthly payments.

But thank you.

I hit send before I should have on my response, when I bought mine, I also got the hand held one (with attachments) and an iron! I still use them all.

I've seen that in the ads, but I already have a "Shark" handheld thingie with attachments, so I don't need another handheld. I still want the hose on the vacuum though, just handier.

A Shop-Vac. Seriously, I use it in the house. It sucks up everything, wet or dry. Yes, it's loud but I only use breifly so I don't really care. You can get a good one for about $50 at any big box home improvement store.

i thought the hose was clogged so took it apart....and yes there was stuff in there BUT get it all unglogged and it still doesn't suck...

Dyson all the way!!!! Nice thing with all us girls in the house (there are 4 of us - vs the 7 boys) having long hair, the roller bar has a groove meant to run scissors thru to clip the hair that gets tangled around. A seam ripper works like a dream to clean it. I LOVE it times a million.

The shop vac worked faster, but it didn't get all the dust and it sprayed a LOT of dust in the air, and DD14's asthma would go insane from the dust. The Dyson doesn't spit all the dust in the air, so it's so much better for her. I will take slower over having to take a kid to the ER after every vacuuming.

We owned a cleaning and carpet business for over ten years. Multimillion dollar homes and apartment contracts cleaning lots of disgusting carpets were the norm...we also do kitten rescue and have 4 kids - 3 on the Autism spectrum...we vaccuum a lot and I have used a lot of other peoples' vacuums in their homes.

The most affordable vacuum that I can really brag about is this one: Sanitaire SC785

http://www.cleaningstuff.net/cleaningsupplies/All/16181/Vacuum-Cleaner-Sanitaire-SC785-12.htm

It works REALLY well, the handle folds down so it doesn't take a lot of space, the head is very small and flat so it gets under a lot of furniture. It is not heavy or difficult to use. We have used this one now for about 5 years.

Now, if you are willing to spend more money..we have owned 2 Dysons and loved them both.

But for the price, size and ability..I probably will always have one of those Sanitaires in my house..it just works well and I hate bulky vacuums. I buy the bags in bulk off ebay by the way..

I have a Riccar and it's a real workhorse. I bought it at a vacuum shop. I've used Kirby, Oreck, Kenmore and Dyson and was unimpressed with their suction power. I have a lot of pets and I really love my Riccar!
