Whats your favorite waterer?

Never tried water nipples. I also had issues with the 2nd one you show - could never get it sitting even and spilled everywhere!

I personally like the 1 gallon waterers, and keep 2 of them. The handle has a bend that keeps it hanging straight, and the patio blocks underneath keeps them surprising clean. For winter I use 1 waterer, and it sits on a homemade water heater - went all winter without frozen water.

Ignore the mulberry mess please, they are dropping like crazy at the moment.
I ended up picking up two of these so far so good. Much less spilled than the other two waterers.

I do use that standard plastic waterers with the red base for chicks.... But for my adults I use Fortex made in the USA black rubber feed pans.

They are stellar, when they freeze solid you can kick out the giant ice cube and nothing breaks...

Best thing ever for winter.

I'll keep that in mind for the winter. I am in Western NY so we have pretty cold winters. Nothing like Alaska but it was a rough one last year.

Alaskan...do you do anything to prevent wattle dipping or feet in the bowl?

No.

None of them walk in the water in the winter. Often the water is mostly frozen over with only a small drinking area open.

As to wattles..... Some roosters with very large wattles have frozen off the front edge.... But that heals up nicely completely on its own without me having to do anything.

I think the metal feeders are a big problem... Now my feeder and waterer are rubber or plastic.

I was hoping to eliminate the frozen wattle edges with my heated horizontal nipple waterer.....but they still drip a bit when they drink and we had some anyway.
But I wouldn't give my heated waterer for nothin!!! SOO easy to just haul a gallon jug out and top it off everyday.

Yeah... I don't think that you can totally eliminate it :idunno even if you kept all water off of the face, those front edges are thin... And if it gets super cold, well... There you are.
