Whats your favorite waterer?

Still digging the horizontal nipples? And no issues with freezing in the winter? Do they leak? Newbie here and hoping to save myself some aggravation.. All I know so far is chickens are very, very messy.

Horizontal nipples in a 5 gallon round bucket (i use a 5 gallon water bottle) on top of a 13" pizza pan on top of my heater linked in my signature.

No wasted water or soaked litter.

No winter worries.

I'm still a big fan and have had great success with them in many situations.....except getting tiny chicks to use them.

No leaks with proper installation, but do get some drips when they drink that can form icicles below in winter and cause frostbite on wattles.

Having to only carry out a gallon jug with water to top off waterer each day is priceless.

My catch pan / pizza pan under the water source worked wonders. My observations verified major dripping with the horizontal nipples also, but the warm pan keeps their waddles away from the dripping water.

The birds drink from the pan whenever water is available, never allowing any conciderable accumulation.

Their waddlles do not have the room to enter the pan as it is easily adjusted to only accommodate their beaks.

Having the heat source under the water source and catch pan prohibits the water from freezing.

No frozen water.
No icicles.
No frozen wattles.
No wet litter.

This was my first year using this method.
Simple and effective.
It worked flawlessly as designed.

Thanks so much. I don't quite have the space you two do in your coops -- 6 pullets in a Garden Coop, but both of you have helped tremendously. There is hope Your technological skills are mucho appreciated.

Horizontal nipples are by far the best water solution you can put them in any pipe or bucket our jug. I have 10 of them in a 55 gallon plastic barrel with a stock tank heater in it for winter, never freezes any dripping is minimal and caused from the chickens drinking not the nipples leaking. I would never use vertical nipples especially in a cold area

I have both horizontal and vertical nipples and the horizontal are by far the easiest. Grab any bucket drill a hole screw in no need to seal it, and done and being able to sit it on the ground to fill makes it easy unlike the other. They use both though no problems. I did have to put the vertical hanging one outside because it did leak a little mostly when they were drinking from it. I will never ever go back to a regular waterer again! They are a pain in the but to clean, they get dirty fast and bugs like mosquitoes can get in.

I ended up picking up two of these so  far so good.  Much less spilled than the other two waterers.

I like these too just lift then so they don't get dirt works great
