whats your prefered method of dispatching sick or injured pet hens?

I have used the broomstick method, it seems to snap the neck quickly. It leaves me w my heart pounding tho, in spite of my belief that it kills them instantly. The wings will flap after they are dead, even if the head is cut off. It’s quite disconcerting. Throw the carcass in a bucket, put the lid on, and walk away.
