It was right after an intersection, no passing areas indicated by those nice double yellow lines. The speed limit for the area I was in was 45, and that kid wasn't going to be traveling that fast, let alone pay attention to the large amount of traffic that could have easily hit and killed him. There was a very wide shoulder provided and a sidewalk he could have ridden on. People were pulling over into a lane with oncoming traffic to avoid the oblivious kid. Bicycles are considered a vehicle here so if I hit him it would have been treated like a car accident, even if he got seriously injured, not a car/pedestrian accident. Of course the end result would have been a large suit against me for his injuries because he couldn't be bothered to notice the traffic around him. No helmet, no mirrors on his bike, no protective padding or clothing, and no reflectors. He wasn't set to be riding on the road, especially a road with heavy traffic daily.
All the cyclists I have ever come across are aware of the traffic around them and have politely moved onto the shoulder to allow traffic to pass rather than impede the flow of traffic. The speed limit for the area I was in was 45, and that kid wasn't going to be traveling that fast, let alone pay attention to the large amount of traffic that could have easily hit and killed him.
Yet he still has every right to do what he was doing an everyone else was breaking the law....
Well then I'm sorry for breaking the law and going around him instead of impeding the flow of traffic and blocking the intersection behind me.
