Whats your thoughts on pushy sellers?

Well, sorry, but I've been on the other end of that too many times. Most things like guineas, ducks, grown turkeys, bantams, ect I only sell in pairs. If you don't you will end up with a bunch of males that you just cant move. Large fowl hens I will sell because I can usually sell the extra roosters for people to eat. Believe me pushy buyers are just as annoying as pushy sellers. What irks me the most is that some people think they should get the female for half the price of the pair. When somone insist that I price the female alone I will usually ask maybe a dollar or two less than the pair. They will usually walk away and quit bugging me then. LOL

Trust me I understand. I just looked at a pen of 15 or more and asked how much for a certain hen and was shocked of how he talked. Im far from pushy and had I not had to have the hen I wouldve walked. The swap sellers as a majority werent very friendly. I dont think i'll go back and have told others about it as well. Now the folks at Sadieville were super friendly and helpful. I'm just a small time deal here.

I don't put mine in pairs in cages. By sale time the boys have been away from the ladies for quite a while and I don't want them riding them like crazy.

I will have cages of males and then cages of females, but never crowded. Drives me crazy to see too many birds stuffed into cages.

I haven't sold mine at shows, but I do list them on Craigslist routinely. I always put in big, bold print that I am selling rooster/hen pairs only and I still get people cranky that I won't sell them just a hen. I use my extra hens to hopefully give my better looking boys a chance to be a rooster and not dinner. By the time they get to selling age I am usually pretty attached to some of these boys and I want to give them a chance at life. I always have previous customers that want to add hens to their mix as well. I have no problems getting rid of hens.

I'm not pushy about selling my roos. I just don't respond to their emails. My ads are pretty clear.

x2! I totally agree. Take it or leave it. Nobody is holding a gun to your head and no, the point is not to just "make a sell". There are plenty of legitimate reasons why sellers do not want to be stuck with excess males and not selling hens by themselves is fairly standard practice and always has been. If you don't like it, don't buy. It is that simple.

For starters I will not buy from anyone who is pushy with me. But I can see both sides...

If they have a pair, they want them both gone. A pair is easier to seel as opposed to a single roo usually.

From your side...why buy a roo if you do not need or want him?

I say...buy what you want or do not buy at all...walk away from someone who is pushy.

I like the buyers who really like your birds, but want to pay you what the guy down the row is asking for his 3 year old gold comets.
