The first hen is out of the Fitz farm line she lays about a 6-7ish. The second is a pullet out of the first hen and isn't laying yet. The third bird is out of the Cree farm line and lays about 4.

some times they are very hard to hatch i usually go 45 percent humidity till lock down than 62 percent and yes wheaten marans are hard for some reason . i think its mostly fertility of roos .. just rest the eggs for a day whan you get them . id sudgest not candeling them every two seconds but thats just me... there is a dry hatch method but iv never tried it..

I took your Advice Randy and had an amazing hatch.

Bargain shipped me 12 eggs, I dropped one so just had 11 to set. 10 out of the 11 hatched. Not bad for shipped eggs!! They turned 2 weeks old this morning. Now, If I understand this thread, the ones with darker wings are cockerels?? If that is the case I think 4 or maybe 5 of them are boys. It was impossible to get good pics with everyones head showing... The 1 out of place black chick is my 4 year old Granddaughters "lucky egg". She collects the eggs, inspects and talks to each one then picks a lucky to add every time I set eggs.

So this would be boy and girl?? You can see Lucky poking her black head up in the background.

I am in love with these little golden fluff balls!!

I had really good luck with her eggs, too. I had a 14 count "variety pack" that included 4 Wheaten Marans eggs. All four hatched and are very sprightly. I'm hoping there will be a good cockerel in the bunch so I'll have a better quality "back-up" breeder. I have two cockerels now that are about 7 months old, but one of them is too dark with a floppy, thumb-printed comb. It's funny to be hoping for a male for a change! Now that there's an APA-approved standard, I'm eager to take some of mine to a show!

The big one in the front is a cockerel, and also has a "split wing", which is a DQ.

I wouldn't worry about that wing yet after the juvi molt I'd worry..... I just got my eggs from Bargain they look good I hope to have a good hatch too since I have some that look like black tailed buff......I'm waiting to see if they molt out right but I'm thinking they are on the "dark side" from very dark eggs so I might use them with my Goldens to improve egg color and leg feathering....

I know almost nothing about split wing but it would make sense it's too early to tell but you have to wait a little while 2 weeks is too young I can never tell the color on the hen if she's going to be too dark or spotted chest until she's a few months old the only major variations in roosters are in the cape and back but they're normally pretty consistent or at least in my flock they are

How dark of an egg are these from bargain ? How would you number rate them ? any Pics ?
Thanks

Just an observation on the split and slipped wing, once this shows up it will never get any better regardless of how long you wait. This is a genetic fault caused by inbreeding and not culling the birds with the fault. It can be worked with but you have to be willing to cull.

Hey Randy, with other breeds I have had it show up soon as the wing feathers showed up around 2-3 weeks.
