Wheaten and Blue wheaten Marans Discussion Thread

thank you as always don but how early can you tell?

Hey Randy, with other breeds I have had it show up soon as the wing feathers showed up around 2-3 weeks.

I've only had one bird here with split wing, but it showed up as soon as he started to feather, and at 9 months old it was still the same.

thanks for the information the only fault that I encounter are in my own flock of birds. like yellow shanks which hopefully up cleared up already the number of points on the comb on the roosters in the cotton tail some of my roosters have some white
feathers in their wings what you don't notice it unless you open their wings I posted a picture
I will be the first 1 to admit some of the faults that my bird have
lol but split wing is not 1 of them. not yet anyway. I've had a closed clock for almost 5 years now
of wheaten marans and are a mixture of pure lines iand cross lines from davis and budy henery

My original wheatens were from Nancy (Bargain). I ordered them through her website before I found out about BYC. They are 37 weeks old now. I don't know of any problems with split wing but there were problems with plumage color. If you're interested, you can look back on this thread. Of course, that was a while ago and I notified her of some of the color issues so she may have been able to clear those up. It will be interesting to see the progress of you guys birds! Best of wishes!
PS Lotsapaints, the one roo I got out of my bunch from Bargain turned out BTB. I found another roo nearby from her (another person who had ordered her eggs) and it was also BTB. You can find this in previous posts but since you mentioned it specifically. The hatch rate from her eggs was great and the eggs are a pretty chocolate color with nice size. (Mine recently started laying.) I also ended up with 1 roo and 10 hens which was nice (but will be culling all but three for the poor feather color *ie red hens with black dots among other things).

Randy,
The girl I got from you is getting prettier every day. I will try to take pictures this evening if I am not too late getting off of work.
