Wheaten and Blue wheaten Marans Discussion Thread

Randy, the cotton fluff is the Tail Coverts if you look real close. My original start from 2007 came from Ron Pressley stock and had all kinds of white but were very large wheaten Marans. This last year I used a male from eggs from nivtup right here on BYC. He had no white.

 

wouldnt the hens also influance the outcome ?

well you know how do I am to this but to me its not the coverts . its more like the under color leeking threw and angle of back ant tali can help correct ?

Randy, the female has a little to do with color but mostly the male. The female has more to do with size of the male.

Randy, when it is light out tomorrow go out and catch one of your males with the white fluff and let me know where it is coming from. Never know your fowl may be different.

if you go to page 183 there's a picture of a rooster in you zoom in on his tail you can see what i call fluff.its not a feather as i would call it .. its like down feather like a slkie would have . if you look closely at the picture of the rooster there's another 1 standing right behind him that has almost zero but his wing has white .like i posted

Hi all, Just so everyone knows the female has very little to do with color, the male has much more. Randy, tried to revive the thread and believe it is a lost cause. If any of the wheaten Marans people want to continue with the discussion let me know.

Noooooo! Don't drop this thread! I see Wheatens in my future. This thread just moves slower, and the Wheatens just don't seem to have the numbers yet, at least here on BYC, but I am still very much interested in learning more about these beauties!!

Hi Debbi, Will try and go over the Back color later today. There were a few changes made on the final Standard.

The Wheaten and White have always been my favorite color of Marans. Soon as the weather warms I plan on hatching a few Wheaten chicks. Don

Thanks Don. The thing I love the most with Randy's hens, are the very crisp and distinct seperation of the colors! Not to mention their body type, WOW!

I do have a question on one of the hens. One has the black? striping in the hackles. Does this go forward easily if bred? It is not desirable or is it? DQ of fault?

Debbi, for some reason the Female hackle stripe was left out of the Standard. That one female has a little much , but would be a great breeder for color. It is very hard to get the colors right without the stripes. All of my wheaten have always had the black stripe in the hackle. Don
