Wheaten and Blue wheaten Marans Discussion Thread

Here are my beauties from Randy! :) They are one week old. There was a third that hatched, but it's intestines were on the outside :(. I've read that can be caused by inadequate turning, but I have a Brinsea that automatically turns every 30 minutes. So I am attributing it to shipping stress.

On a happy note, I know it is too early to be sure, but I believe I have one male and one female! They are very sturdy, healthy chicks and we are really looking forward to watching them grow.

The one in the back is the one I am thinking is a rooster. The wing feather color in the one in the front is much lighter in color.

I'm so happy for you sorry about the bad hatch rate but I'm working on that now it seems that my younger rooster I had for a replacement has hurt himself and might not make it. I have 5 more roosters going to be ready in about 4 months so I'm not too worried about it

I'm curious. I'm looking at all these Roos from Bev and trying to figure who looks like dinner and who's a keeper. Any clean legged I guess can go. But if you could choose from a Wheaten or Blue wheaten Roo to keep, what would you pick? If they were equally good...?

Also I have a strange colored Wheaten Roo. He is almost completely coppered/red in color. There is a bit of cream to him, but not a lot. Is he a total garbage color, or is this a rare wheaten color I don't know about? I'm so new to this, in case you couldn't tell...:p

Posting pics would be the quickest way to get some opinions on them. It sounds like maybe that red colored one you have might be a splash, but no way to be sure without being able to see them.
