Wheaten and Blue wheaten Marans Discussion Thread

Don, I'd like to know what you see that makes you think roo in his bird? I have no experience with the Wheaten color so far, well at least none more than a week old.

Debbi, Some of the young wheaten male chicks will have the light faded coloring like this chick. These are the ones when grown will have the cottontail , white undercolor and most likely white in wing and tail. Not knocking the chick as they are not all going to be show quality birds. This chick almost looks to be a blue wheaten.

We hatched several wheaten chicks.

Don, I believe it is a Blue Wheaten. Are you going by any other traits other than coloring?

Not Randy, but to me he looks good so far, except his shank/toe feathering seems to be lacking. Too young to tell how he will mature, but the feahters on the shanks won't mystically appear if they are not there already by this age. Thanks for posting the pics, we need more of them to compare the young ones...at least I do!

he looks fine . that s the ugly stage i talked about were there looking a little mixwd up. shank feathering coyld be a little more . but my bigest concern is that shank feathering should be black but hes to young to tell and will change im sure. some of my younger birds are light colored but will darken. in a few more weeks eye color will change . he looks perty normal .nothing jumps out as bad. nice little guy. keep the pics comeing.
