Wheaten and Blue wheaten Marans Discussion Thread

Thanks Randy, I thought that would be the color. The dark has more slate and the lighter is more white. The darker is what I like to use when trying to make some males.
 
more lile a hoot owl . quiet here tonight. finaly the hens i sold a few months back started laying for them people. i warned them it would take 7 or 8 months. lol i got a text from them telling me they got there first egg. that means the two i kept will lya soon
im not running lights 24-7 like them but im in no hurry

chicks are borne white or yellow but as for pullets i like the looks of darker backed hens but they always carry wheat or brown spots in front chest and breed even darker spotted hens but make better roos with OUT cotton coverts. the lighter hens breed better 3 color hens . as for under color me or my sister could not see a differance but mabe i dont have an eye for it. they all look almost white or dull light color

hmmm... ok... So the wheatens are similar to the FBCMs in that way, sounds like... a friend of mine who breeds them also says that some of the birds breed great hens, and she gets good roos from others of her birds, but she hasn't been able to get great hens and roos from the same pairings, usually, and consistently...

i produced 1 roo a few years back . what i thouhght was perfect but after test breeding learned he was resessive yellow leg . .he had no white in wing or tail. i know the origonal hen it came from....... nice lookig roo and hen i got rid of i started with 4 hens 2 roo i only have 12 hens 5 roo to this day
