Wheaten and Blue wheaten Marans Discussion Thread

Randy, The problem I have with chicken Housing where I live for the past 30 years is that I end up with more than I really want to buy feed for. I have cut down breeds to where I only have the Marans, Buff Brahma Bantams, and lt. brown Dutch. I got rid of everything else about a month ago.

I use several GQF incubators and have made several starter brooders with the GQF auto brooder heaters. Best investment I ever made with the chicken supplys.

Until we get some info on the Proposed standard, feel free to just talk about anything you would like. Anyone have any poultry ideas you would like to post go right ahead.

How about some articles on how everyone takes care of their Wheaten or any other Marans. Don

ok heres a question , with wheaten roosters, and some have white feathers in on the wing , can it be seen with the wing closed ? and because iv never realy been to a show another question , will the judge extend or pull the wing out to look , im sure the answer is yes

Randy, one of the first things most judges do is spred the wing showing the entire feather pattern. We have to open up the wing ourselves and do not breed to a male with white wing if at all possible, I have found that the less faults we breed the less culling we will do later. Don

My first Wheaten Marans hatched this weekend...from Lisa Cree. Out of 18 eggs sent, 6 candled clear. I hatched 7 out of 8 (one quitter).

That is really not bad...out of 12 fertile eggs, 11 hatched! And the eggs are gorgeous. Just wanted to share.

Randy......I can smell a white feather on a wheaten chicken. We look at every part of the bird from head to toes. Some of us even check the toe nail color.
