Wheaten and Blue wheaten Marans Discussion Thread

Hi Randy,

Nope, what I saw was black in the wing. I PMed you with the link to the pic. I really like the looks of the second hen you have pictured! For some reason, it looks to me, that the darker headed hens have almost 4 different colors going on. Like two different shades of wheat on the top of their backs. Your second hen is what I am looking for colorwise, nice, clean cut color seperation there!!

I've got a few Marans that I'm new to; have been photographically tracking development on all my birds. The Wheaten chicks are just under 4 weeks and I'd really appreciate any guesses on why one of the possible boys seems to be colored like a girl.

Berkeleysprings, my littlest Wheatie was also yellow with a head spot, you'll notice.

Always learning - commentary and observations are very welcome!

Not sure which is which in that photo, sorry. So are you suggesting I cull a 4 week old, then? :-|

Does anyone actually go to links and look? Or should we be posting photos directly into these messages instead? I didn't want to do that as there are many photos and are fairly large.

Just wondering why I get mostly ignored when I post links.

Don't be discouraged Chilifur, this thread doesn't move as quickly as the other Marans thread; it may just be a matter of time till someone answers you. As for culling at 4 weeks, well, I like to wait longer. These birds change so dramatically in just a couple of week's time!

Culling doesn't mean cutting the little guys head off at four weeks ... it means the bird goes to the grow out pen and if it's color or whatever doesn't improve ... then it goes to freezer camp with the other 3-4 pound culls.

We can't hatch 30-40 eggs and keep all of them.

Hello everyone, I want to introduce you to my new Wheaten Maran..

but is she a wheaten and to me so coppery colored.. so I dont know what is normal and not..etc..I havent a clue.. hehehe

I also noticed.. she has no feather leggs.. do they not have feather leggs>>????
