Ill be receiving 6 Cottage Hill Wheaten Marans tomorrow. 4 pullets 2 roos. They're about 3-4months old.
I look forward to sharing pictures of my birds and learning about this breed and also how to properly breed them.
Hi Everyone! I've been traveling a lot lately and haven't been by the thread to see what's up. Awfully quiet around here. Just yesterday I was out in the poultry yard shaking my head about one of my Wheaten pullets. Man, does she have a horrible comb. The closer she gets to laying the worse it gets. It's sprig city up in there! Looks like she'll just be part of the layer flock. Sigh. Still, so long as she lays she can stick around. An egg from a poor example tastes the same as an egg from a show-stopper!
Thanks! I enjoy looking at them a lot and I'm really super excited about breeding some.
How do you get blue Wheaten? Just a question i was asked but wasn't sure about. Blue Copper x Wheaten?
Thanks guys!
I'm waiting for the PO to call me and tell me my birds are there. I'll post up pictures when they come!
My first Wheaten egg today!
From Candice, one of my June 1 girls.
I have another girl that is two weeks older and I thought she would be the first to lay. Guess you never can tell !

I got my Cottage Hill Wheaten Marans yesterday! I feel like bangarang64 and they havent even started laying! I turned on the light in the coop last night just to stare and admire them. I got these from James Meeks at Skyline Poultry. He said they are 1st generation Ron Presley egg stock. He said he got the birds from Mr. Presley and these birds are the eggs hatched from them! I am very appreciative to have such quality marans such as these. They are a good start on working this breed as far as I know. Is Like to hear any feedback about what you more experienced Marans connoisseurs think about these specific birds and what I need to work on. I think all these birds are between 12-15 weeks so no eggs until around March. But that's enough time to learn enough before I start culling! Here's some pictures I snapped when they first came out of the box. I wanted to wait to take better pictures but the weathers gonna be craooy for the next couple of days so ill post these up for now. Here's my older roo His back My younger roo His back The girls are shy and they'll have to do some warming up... I think that's the whole gang I'm very excited and feel very lucky to own these birds finally! Glad to be apart of the Wheaten Marans family! Mike
