Hi Illia its nice to see you on this thread. How are your birds doing? Haha you don't really know me but its pictures of your birds that got me started on this variety of Marans.

Well, thanks.

Yes, I very rarely frequent any of the Marans threads any more.

I lost one of my Wheaten hens (had to be one of my two best of course

) a few months ago, had some broodiness go on, and am now finally getting some production again, however my Blue Wheaten cock hasn't been breeding for a while, so he's a little rusty on how to do it right, and thus, no fertility yet, . . . Plus he is a MESS!

This is him several months ago.

In a nutshell, Marans business is not swell. My Black Coppers got cut back quite a bit (not my choice) and my best cock from Wynette died several months ago, now all I have is a cock who I have to admit, I don't like too much except for his candy-sweet temperament. He's small, narrow, has a little white in his tail, and a nearly squirreled tail. But he's all I have.

I'm sorry to hear about your hen and Rooster I made the mistake of only having 1 Black Copper Rooster and lost him a month ago. So I'm going to stick to Wheatens for now hopefully getting some more blood for my flock this winter and spring.

By the way your Blue boy is GORGEOUS but i prefer the blue hens over the blue roosters.

Here some pictures I prommissed of the newest ones.

As you can see by the last picture they are moulting pretty bad. I will get some better pictures once they are back up to shape. I think then I will be able to see the full picture on what they are and what they need work on.

I got my first egg from them yesterday also so will have to try and take a picture very bad at pictures even worse with eggs.

Is he just faded from the sun or did he change colors after molting? It looks as if he also gained some more upright tail angle....that usually does not happen. Maybe it is the way he is standing in that one pic.

He was just holding it higher.

It's mainly faded colors from the sun. My Polish boys are also pretty pale and yellow looking, definitely not photo-worthy material right now. I'm just thinking "I can't wait until they molt."

The missing and scruffy feathers, tail included, are probably from a couple disagreements with the other boys. Another factor I believe is also their changed diet. In the winter and spring they had a lot of good variety, but through most of summer except just recently, they've had nothing but commercial feed. (sadly the boys just don't eat the plants or bugs in their area much)

He has the same sun bleached look as my other blue coppered birds get in the summer. I bet by winter he will look like a new boy or should I say his old self LOL! I still love him!!
