Randy, I recall reading somewhere, that is was a desired thing for these birds (Marans in general) to mature at a slower rate. It did have something to do with them laying a darker egg color too. Pullets that laid early on, tended to lay lighter colored eggs, due to the paint shop not being mature. Wish I could remember where I saw it, seems it was on BYC somewhere.
