Do you have any pics of the "dots"? I have seen some hens, in pics, with the dark stripes that they refer to as "flames" in some, but I would've assumed this is not desired. Those with the flames seem to also have a more golden color of hackle and not a reddish wheat color, which I also assumed is not desirable? Pics do help, but I can't wait until my little one gets older to see this all first hand! She

Sure hope your theory on that is right Randy, I need some darker eggs here! My BCM girls all started laying between 20-26 weeks.
 
Hey all, I agree with Randy the Black in the Wheaten is a much needed trait to produce SOP type Marans. If anyone is interested we can go over what must be done to breed the Wheaten to the SOP Standard

I'm interested!!!! In the next six months, I hope to be doing my final culling of my breeders (now that I have a rooster from the wonderful Randy Kallock!!!!!! Thanks, Randy

) I have one or two hens that I know are good color for hens, but will be looking at some others to see what may help my roo breeding. I think I have understood that some hens will produce nice cockerels, but others will produce nicer pullets? Are there some pointers or definite indicators for this???
