New to quail. Impulse buy, I'll admit it. We have chickens, so we have some experience at least. We have 3 button quail- 7-10 days old. We have them in a 30 gallon tank as a brooder. All are well. They are too stinking cute! They do like to be kept warm. I'm hoping to reduce their heat over the next week. they will likely be indoor only pets, unless we build them a summer-only pen outside.

With our chicks, we started grit and treats pretty early on. When can we start offering food other than the game bird starter? We have grit that we will grind smaller. We can add a dust bath box with sand for grit, too.

I understand, I think, that they are better in pairs. I figured we'd wait and see what we end up with and either get another one or place the odd man out.

Thanks!

I would think that when they are feathered out they would be old enough as long as you dont give them too much. Mine adore mealworms and come right up to the cage bars to take them out of my fingers! Their eggs are in lockdown in my bator right now! I am so excited! This is my first time trying to hatch buttons though...we will see!

The best treat is GBS free choice 24/7.

I AGREE

ALSO FOR THE RECORD... MEAL WORMS AND BABY QUAIL ARENT A GOOD MIX... THEY LOVE THE MEALIES ALRIGHT, AND TECHNICALLY THE MEALIES ARE GOOD FOR THEM NUTRITIONALLY... BUT IF YOUR NEW TO QUAIL IT DOESNT TAKE LONG TO FIGURE OUT THAT MENTALLY THEY ARENT THE SHINIEST BULB ON THE TREE... THEY LOVE MEALIES SO MUCH THAT THEY WILL OFTEN MISTAKE THEIR BROODMATE MORTY'S TOES AS A MEALIE AND THEN THE PARTY GETS STARTED.

BASICALLY IT TEACHES OR FINE TUNES AN ALREADY EXISTING BAD BEHAVIOR THAT LEADS TO INJURY/ DEATH OF YOUR STOCK... BEST TO WAIT TIL THEIR TINY BIRD BRAINS MATURE SO THERE'S NO PROBLEMS
