My chicks are just over 8 weeks old and they've been inside. I took out the heart lamp about two weeks ago and they're doing good, but they don't seem to like it outside. Every time they go outside, they just stand still and don't really want to do anything. It's around 50-60°F outside when I let them in their coop and they look fully feathered so I feel like they should be ok. Do you think they just need to get more used to it? Thanks.

I've always taken my chicks outside on short "day trips" starting at about 2 weeks old. I'd also bring in a little chunk of sod to the brooder for them to play with, then permanently move them to the coop by 4-6 weeks old. Your chicks maybe have never seen the outdoors? They just need time to figure out their new home and discover how fun grass and dirt really is. Your outside temps sound perfect so it shouldn't take them too long.

As said above, You can put them out now. It’ll just take a bit of time for them to get used to their new surroundings.

Do you have other birds...or is the coop empty??
If empty, just put them out there and leave them locked in coop for about a week.
If you have other birds might be trickier,
then dimensions and pics of your coop would help us help you figure it out.

Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, (laptop version shown), then it's always there!
