This happens...
So long story short, my English White Coturnix have turned into a 'monogamous pair' which I've read can happen but is rare.
He really only has eyes for his lady.
I did used to have another female but he ignored her completely and she was kinda pushed away. Unfortunately a rat got her when they used to be housed in our aviary
He originally did cause injury to her (Marsh) wing, but after I banished him to the naughty cage he seemed to learn his lesson. They now seem to be on mutual terms on when they can get down to business.
I'm not sure if anyone else has witnessed this with their Quail but the male will actually walk in front of the female, lie down on his front with his neck and head fully stretched out flat to the floor as if he's wanting her to do the 'job'. She then just squints at him and walks away...
I have no idea what they are saying to each other but they are definitely communicating in some strange Quail way.
I hope to keep a female chick and have my male Quail accept it but that'll be in a couple of months time. At least I hope he does because I want more eggs...
Anyways, meet the family!
Marsh did lay her eggs in a nest like area in her nesting box but I preferred to put them in the incubator.
All eggs are from Marsh and Mallow.
They are my first ever hatch and 6/6 eggs hatched! I think 100% hatch first time is decent?
I used the Rcom 10 Pro Plus incubator.
The Happy Couple Together:
Meet Mammy Quail: (Marsh)
Meet Daddy Quail: (Mallow)
Meet Baby Quail(s): (6 Unnamed)
